The world's largest gathering of education and skills ministers

    17–20 May 2026
    London, UK

Educating for a shared future: Peace, planet, purpose and pathways

In a time of global uncertainty marked by escalating geopolitical tensions, intensifying climate crises, widening inequalities and accelerating technological change, education remains a powerful lever for shaping a better tomorrow, equipping learners with the skills, knowledge, competencies and values to build human-centred, peaceful, just and sustainable societies.

The Education World Forum 2026 will bring together education and training ministers from around the world, alongside key multilateral organisations and strategic industry partners, to explore how education, at all levels, in all settings and throughout life, can be reimagined to tackle today’s most pressing challenges and unlock opportunities for growth.

Focusing on the practical challenges and solutions of policy implementation and leveraging international dialogue and partnerships amid shrinking public funding and growing threats to cooperation, EWF 2026 aims to support education ministers in building inclusive, high-quality and future-ready education systems that foster resilience, innovation and a shared sense of responsibility for our collective future.

Through a diverse programme of plenary sessions, parallel tracks and workshops, the forum will enable focused conversations and the exchange of practical experiences across four interlinked, overarching themes: peace, planet, purpose and pathways.

    Agenda themes

    Peace

In a world marked by growing social divides, political tensions and global conflict, this theme explores the vital role of education in fostering cultural inclusivity, empathy and mutual understanding. We will examine practical strategies, policies and learning approaches that empower learners to bridge differences, strengthen social cohesion and contribute to more peaceful and resilient communities both locally and globally.

    Planet

As climate change, environmental degradation and resource scarcity intensify, this theme focuses on how education can equip learners with the knowledge, skills and mindset to drive sustainable solutions. Discussions will explore climate literacy, emphasising how education can cultivate ecological resilience while promoting green innovation and socio-economic prosperity in an environmentally challenged world.

    Purpose

In an era of unprecedented technological advancement, including the rapid rise of AI, this theme examines how education can remain human-centred and purpose-driven. We will explore approaches that empower teachers and learners to harness technology and innovation responsibly, enhancing the quality and standards of education, while supporting personal development and societal well-being.

    Pathways

Amid widening socio-economic inequalities and systemic barriers to learning, this theme explores how education systems can expand access to high-quality learning opportunities for all. Discussions will highlight strategies to create flexible and diverse pathways that respond to different learners’ needs and enable them to thrive in a complex, fast-changing world, fostering equity, inclusion and lifelong opportunities.
