Professor Dr Myo Thein Gyi is the Union Minister for Education of Myanmar. He gained a Master of Science Degree in Mathematics from Yangon University in 1992, and Dr rer nat Degree from Technical University of Berlin in 1998. He worked as Mathematics Professor, Pro-rector, Deputy Director General of Higher Education, Director General of Department of Myanmar Education Research and Rector of West Yangon University. He led the Comprehensive Education Sector Review (CESR) Phase 1: Rapid Assessment, Phase 2: In-depth Analysis, and Phase 3: National Education Strategic Plan - NESP (2016-2021). He has been Union Minister for Education since April 2016 and implementing Education Reforms through the National Education Strategic Plan (2016-2021) to improve quality education in Myanmar. The Ministry of Education is undergoing a reform process, addressing the education needs of children in disadvantaged and marginalised areas and implementing a policy on ‘No Child Left Behind’ for universal access to education. The Ministry of Education aims to increase access to education, leaving no child behind, emphasize improving the quality and completion rate of both primary and secondary education, and create more opportunities for access to Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and Higher Education. The Ministry of Education is now fulfilling the needs of Education Institutions to leapfrog implementing the Comprehensive Education Reform in Myanmar, along with issues, challenges, lessons learned, and progress.
