President, Plan Ceibal, Uruguay
Miguel Brechner Fey has been the President of Plan Ceibal since 2007, an initiative which has deployed one million laptops to schools in Uruguay in an effort to significantly improve access to ICT and work towards the “One Laptop Per child” (OLPC) vision. In the public sector, he has worked for ANTEL (Uruguay's government-owned telecommunications company) in the Department of Engineering, he was President of LATU (Technological Labs of Uruguay) from 2005 to 2010, and Director at the National Research and Innovation Agency ANII from 2007 to 2013. In the private sector between 1978 and 2005 he founded and managed several computer and telecommunications companies, and has also acted as an external consultant in telecommunications and provided consultancy for technical services in the Latin American region. He holds a BSc in Electrical Engineering from Kings College, London, an MSc in Telecommunications Engineering from Imperial College, and management qualifications from Northwestern University Chicago.
