HE Prof Dr Marwan Awartani

HE Marwan Awartani was appointed to his current role in 2019. Prior to this, he was President of the Palestine Academy for Science and Technology and the Palestine Technical University, and was and acting President of Al-Quds University. From 2004 to 2013 he was Secretary General of the Universal Education Foundation and a lecturer at Birzeit University between 1981 and 2004. He has been chairman of the Forum of Arab Supporting Institutions and the National Scientific Research Policy Team, Head of the Scientific and Technological Planning Unit at the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation. He was formerly President of the Palestinian Association for Mathematical Sciences and the Palestinian Mathematical Olympiad and has been a member of various groups including the International Prize for Innovation in Education, the Supreme Council for Creativity and Excellence and the Technical Committee of the Arab Achievement Awards. He co-founded the Palestinian Diaspora Network of Scientists and Technologists and founded Inspiration for Palestine, as well as advising bodies such as the European Union, UNESCO, ESCWA, AMIDEAST, the World Bank and the MIT International Science and Technology Initiative in the fields of science and technology, knowledge development, education and innovation. He has a BSc in Mathematics and an MSc and PhD in Topology.
