Minister of Education and Science, Ukraine
Liliya Hrynevych has held the position of Ukraine's Minister of Education and Science since April 2016. As a leader in secondary education reform, she has worked on the ‘Law on Education’ in the Verkhovna Rada (the unicameral parliament of Ukraine) and continued lobbying when she became the Minister. In 2017, the Verkhovna Rada adopted the ‘Law on Education’ which completely changed the principles of school education in Ukraine. From 2006 to 2009, Ms. Hrynevych headed the Kyiv City Council Education Department. In 2012 she was elected to the Verkhovna Rada and served as the chair of the Parliamentary Committee for Science and Education. Liliya Hrynevych was the leading lobbyist of the ‘Law on Higher Education’, adopted in 2014, and the ‘Law on Scientific and Scientific-Technical Activity’, adopted in 2015. Hrynevych has degrees in Biochemistry and Management of Economics. She conducted internships at the Universities of Columbia and Warsaw on the subject of education reform.
