Co-creator, Ending Violence in Schools Youth Manifesto, Johannesburg, South Africa
Khuthandzo Silima, 18, is a recent graduate of Princess High School in Johannesburg and one of the young leaders who helped draft the Youth Manifesto that inspired the Safe to Learn initiative. She grew up in Soweto Green village, witnessing violence in her school and community and its impact on learning. Her experience inspired her to become a leader in the Girls and boys Education Movement Club and the Representative Council of Learners, where she chaired the Arts and Culture portfolio. She also excelled on her school debate and chess teams. Today she continues to use her voice and energy to raise awareness about violence and work for solutions. She also volunteers for the Santa Shoe Box project and the Precious Girls mentorship programme. She plans to study Biotechnology and Food Science at the university level.
