Hon Shafqat Mahmood
Minister for Federal Education Professional Training and National Heritage, Pakistan
Hon Shafqat Mahmood (MNA), is Federal Minister for the Ministry of Federal Education & Professional Training and also serves at the National History and Literary Heritage Division in Pakistan. He has been a Senator (1994-1999) and Member of the National Assembly of Pakistan (2013-18). He was awarded the Humphrey fellowship in 1980 and placed at the Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University from where he completed a Masters in Public Administration. He achieved a further Masters in Public Administration from the University of Southern, California, and a Masters in Psychology from the University of Punjab. Mr. Mahmood’s responsibilities have included Member of the Pakistan Delegation to the United Nations 1994-1996, Special Envoy of the Prime Minister of Australia and Malaysia 1995-1996, Caretaker Federal Minister for Agriculture (1997), Minister for Information Punjab (1999-2000), Visiting Faculty at the Lahore School of Economics 2001-2003 and more recently, Member National Assembly of Pakistan 2013-18. He wrote a regular weekly column in ‘The News’, the largest English language newspaper in Pakistan, for 11 years.
