Dr Jaime Saavedra Chanduvi
Senior Director of Education, Education Global Practice, The World Bank
Jaime Saavedra leads the Education Global Practice at the World Bank. He rejoined the Bank after working in the Government of Peru, where he served as Minister for Education from 2013 to 2016. During his tenure, the performance of Peru’s education system improved substantially as measured by international learning assessments. Dr Saavedra has led groundbreaking work in the areas of poverty and inequality, employment and labor markets, the economics of education, and monitoring and evaluation systems. He has held positions at the Inter-American Development Bank, Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean, International Labour Organization, Grupo de Análisis para el Desarollo, and the National Council of Labor in Peru. Prior to serving as Peru’s Minister for Education, he had a ten-year career at the World Bank, serving as Director, Poverty Reduction and Equity as well as Acting Vice President, Poverty Reduction & Economic Management. Mr. Saavedra holds a PhD in economics from Columbia University and a bachelor’s degree in economics from the Catholic University of Peru.
