Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Armenia
Dr. Arayik Harutyunyan was appointed as a Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Armenia on May 11, 2018 after Armenian Revolution (known as the “Velvet Revolution”) with a series of anti-government protests in Armenia from April to May 2018. Prior to that, he served as Chairman of the Standing Committee of Education, Culture and Social Affairs of the Council of Elders of the city of Yerevan.
Since 2007 Dr. Harutyunyan has been lecturer at the Faculty of Oriental Studies at Yerevan State University. He is a board member of “Civil contract” party from 2013 and a member of “Transparency International Anti-Corruption” organization from 2014. Dr. Harutyunyan was Chairman of the Board of ruling “Civil Contract” party from 2015-2016.
In 2008 he was a cofounder of “HIMA” (“NOW”) youth initiative, which is composed of high school students, college students at different levels, graduates and post-graduates, as well as young university professors and other youth of diverse backgrounds, to protect democracy and civil rights in Armenia.
